How to track item serial numbers

Hi,
I want to register for all the items that I purchase their corresponding serial numbers. When I sell them, I want to register in the invoice also the serial number of the item that I sell, so that I may know which client has purchased which serial number.
Please help me how to configure this feature in the system.

Every sale that I of Items will generated an item ledger entry.
If go to an item ledger entry you can filter by Serial No. then you can see Customer No.
In version 5 you have a form called Item Tracing, in that form you can insert a serial no. and see all sales made.

On the item card go to the Item Tracking Tab, in the item tracking code field pick a code you have configured for serial number tracking, then when you buy and sell this item the system insists on a serial number being defined. Then everything Nuno says works

If you are now looking to serialise items with existing entries you cannot as standard, you need to create a new part, although there are alternatives if you search the forums.
