Change: this loads the license for the active session only. When you close the NAV session, and open a new NAV client, it will revert to the standard license
Import: loads the license into the installation folder in Program Files. Next time you open an NAV client, this is the license the session will start with, until you connect to a database server or a SQL Server database that is using another one.
Upload: this is for SQL Server only, and it loads the license into the Master database. Next time you connect to any NAV database on that server it will use this license.
Order in which NAV will use licenses:
- When it starts it will use the "fin.flf" in the NAV application folder
- When you connect to a database that has another license installed (either by way of the native database server, or by way of a SQL Server database) it will change to that server license
- When you change licenses, it will load the license and close the current database. Now when you connect to the database again, it will not load the server license but keep the one you loaded manually.
Upload..
Used to upload your license file to the SQL Server that you wish to access. The license information will be used by all the client computers that connect to this server unless a database license file is being used.
Import..
Used to import a new license file, which can then be used each time the application is opened (or until another license file is imported). Note, however, that as soon as a database is opened on a SQL Server, the license information on the server will be used and, therefore, the imported license file will not be used.
Export..
Used to export a copy of your license file - to a diskette, for example. You use this when you renew your license.
Change..
Used for a temporary change of license file, when a dealer visits you, for example, and has brought his or her own license file on a diskette (to be able to use C/AL permissions). This function ensures that the change is not saved the next time you start the program, and your old license file is used. You must be sure to use this if you want to work using the demonstration license file cronus.flf, otherwise you may overwrite your own license file.
Microsoft Dynamics NAV will warn you before your license expires. If you allow the license on the server to expire, you will be unable to access the server. However, you can use the Change function to gain access to the server with an alternative license file.
