Executable Not Responding

Since we have moved to Nav 3.70 (I don't think it happened in 3.60), we sometimes have the executable hang when opening up Navision. When you do a Cntl + Alt + Delete it shows the program as "Not Responding". It only happens ocassionally, but may do so 3 or 4 times before finally opening up the application. It does not seem to be isolated to a specific workstation either.

Also, after our backup has run, the application seems to take quite a long time to come up the first time. Perhaps not surprizing, but is there a way to schedule something to get around this?

Thanks,
Shelley

I wish I had a £1.00 for every time I heard this one....

.....I would still have to work till im 65

This is due to DBMS Cache. The higher the cache setting the longer it takes to fill it. In my personal experience, the only time this needs to be set high is if your doing a high number of transactions.

    Hope this helps :D

Freezing on splash screen is normal under citrix or terminal server. It is something with timezones (check time on all connecting PC) or with user rights (user must have write rights in client directory). 8)

Now I have that same problem for my citrix / terminalusers. But the strange thing is if I from the same machine makes 2 connections, one with my own login (super) and one with a regular user, I get in without problems, the other connection don't. In this case both are in the same timezone. And the system have now been running for nearly one year without this problem, it first came today. Please help if you can

You may check also your printer setup. I vaguely remember something like this happened to me also in while using certain printer driver. Navision fills up its printers table on startup and possibly can hang on that also.

Today means after changing from winter time to summer... :-) Navision want to reindex the help. Have users write permissions into client folder? If no, there is problem. Which version you are using? 3.70? 3.70B do not need reindex after time change... Disable client timezones on citrix, it helps.

    :D
Well for now it has been solved. First we are running 3.70. Fixed the time zones, which actually created more problems than it solved, so I switched them back. The last users which had the problem, I added to Domain admins, logged in and started Navision, which then rebuilded the help-index. Closed Navision and logged the user out, removed the Domain Admin rights from them again, and they could now login as usual and without any problems.

I thank you for your help :)

Last info from MS I have say, that there is still recommandation to have write permission on client folder for users... (other files are created and modified etc.. for example fin.dmp after client crash - it is dump file)

What client foldes are you exactly talking about? The users home folder like where my documents are stored? If thats the case they ofcourse have that permission.

Kine means the folders where the fin.exe is and its sub folders. Default is C:\Program Files\ Microsoft Business Solutions - Navision\Client plus sub folders

Does anyone know where MS state this? I've got a problem where a user doesn't want to give staff write access to the program files, what we find is that if we give the user temporary write access the first time then take it off them this then allows you to open Nav up again and again without write access.
    I'm NAV for it!!!
