Also to be honest, 4.00 SP1 is a really horrible version of NAV. Just go to SP3 executables, its much much better. And switch to Standard Security model.
Will the code units for SP2 and SP3 be a straightforward import or could their be potential conflicts with bespoke development?
Sorry what is Standard Security model?
Will going to SP3 make it compatible with SQL 2005 (and SQL 2008?)

Simple does not exist in SP1, but basically it means you will no longer need to run the "Synchronize security routine"
I have not seen any conflicts with SP1 objects on SP3, but note that there are some "issues" in SP1 that are not resolved simply by an executable upgrade.
Yes the sp3 executables are SQL 2008 compatible, but make sure you have the correct hotfixes.
Make sure to read Waldo's blog before you switch excutables.
In my ignorance #-o i am continuing with an install of V4 Sp1 on 64 bit platform
I have immediately hit a snag 'The SQL Server ODBC driver on your computer is not a recent version' - Is this becasue i need a 64-bit version of MDAC, and if so where can i get it from?
Also can any one point me to a document which lists all the fixes for v4 SP1 to SP3?
