What is the recommended maximum amount of fields you would use in CALCFILEDS before it would start to have an impact on performance, i'm just trying to get a general idea.
You can do a CALCFIELD on all flowfields, and each one takes time to calculate. Every additional field will add to the processing time, and it is really a matter of what is required. You would typically only do a CALCFIELD on a field that you need. Whatever you need to calculate is what you should put in code. You're not going to calculate all flowfields if you only need the value of one of them.
Try to hide flow fields from forms and MAINLY List Forms (I've added some checkboxes for the user to use when he is really interested in some flowfield value). It's very stressful to have many flowfields on forms. So use what is absolutely necessary and when it is needed.
Comments
Calcfields recommend as many as Flowfields.

It's informative... Having a lot of flowfields visible on a form is like calling CALCFIELDS for all of them...
