Critical Error in Outlook Integration, Part II

I can see from the number of viewings of my first posting regarding this topic that many have read my cry for help but apparently nobody has an answer for it.
Neither do I, however, I have created a new public folder in Outlook as a contacts folder. Then copied all the contacts over, exported them all to a CSV file, deleted the contacts in the public folder and then imported from the file. It works, no more errors when synchronizing.
The only problem is that the sync process is extremly slow and there is still no concrete explanation of what went wrong in the first place :?
