Hey all, getting an error whilst trying to run the windows service for a 3.01 server.
1) does 3.01 server support windows 2003?
Scenario
used to run this database on separate server with separate HD for each DB.
now running as i have in the past on one HD but locally mapping the folders back to different drive letters. i have done this a few times on XP client boxes running same db as this.
I can open client > open database and works fine, browse tables etc.
when installing service gets no error but gets the attached error when trying to start the service.
Have tried this in a batch file but does not work either
server INSTALLASSERVICE, CACHE=200000, COMMITCACHE=YES, SERVERNAME=IKEAATTAIN, NETTYPE=TCP,
DATABASE="E:\attdb1\ikeaatt1.fdb",
net start ikeaattain
running out of ideas now. must be something stupid i cant see here that somebody can?
Regards
Nic

But it is not problem to open the 3.01 with the 3.70 or better server and use the same 3.70 or better client to open it. You do not need to keep it on 3.01...0 -
do u need to upgrade the server and clients only? or have to touch the database as well?
the old database is a native 3,01 database, about 50gb and needs to stay this way but if i can use the database only with no change and use the newer 3.7 client and server install that may work fine yes.
does anyone know of this error code in this instance and is it compatible with 2003 server?Nic Beer

You can use any version with newer client. You can use e.g. 2.60 db with 5.0 client without any change in objects. Opening the DB with newer client will only change some attributes on the database, that it cannot be opened with older version anymore, but the new client will work with it without problems. Of course, best is to test it on some copy first, but this "technical upgrade" (or C/Side upgrade) is common way how to use newest client without need of upgrading objects. Just search the forum for "technical upgrade"...0
