Can a variable be set as a ReqFilterFields option?

I've created a variable that is not included as a report dataitem...the variable references a field in a record variable/table.

How can I allow the user to enter a filter on this variable, like those allowed in the ReqFilterFields area?

Why not add the variable on the request form and filter the record in the onpredataitem trigger ?

The sample code is good on the post but if you can explain in more detail when you need to filter I can give you a better answer.
