Error Opening the Database....

DommelDommel Member Posts: 8
While opening the table in database(Native which is NAV v4.0 SP3) its showing error as

Other Concurrent activities have reused te available space in the database that contained your snapshot of data. This can occur in connection with time-consuming task such as printing or making backups.
If this occurs often ou should create more available space in the database by

*Expanding the database
*Deleting unnecessary data
* Date compressing older, non-concurrent entries.
*Optimizing the database.

Go to File, Database, Information and check the Database tab. If the Database Used is full, you need to expand the database to make some room. It is recommended to have at least 15% free space.

That means, the DB is not opened by the client. This happened many times to me and I feel that the DB is corrupted. Our partner was not able to give a solution.

It was always an easy task for me to restore from the last backup.

    Good luck!

    Dommel,

you have to open the database first before other options become available.
So first open the database, then click file->Database -> Information.

You need to be on the machine where the database is, if its on the server then go to that machine.

Make sure the server.exe service is STOPPED.

Run Nav and go File database Open.
    Blank out the server

Then browse to the database and open it.

Now you can expand the database.

    if not DESCRIBE THE ERROR.

    hi
Please let us know whether David Singleton's suggestion works.
Because, we have had this issue many times and never been able to open it to expand.
If I remember correctly, I tried to open on server machine also. But, I don't remember STOPPING the service.

Ultimately, we had to restore from the backup.

Are you doing anything different now to prevent this?
Was it a corrupt database or out of database space?

    I check ours weekly.

I feel that this happened mainly due to network failures and I think that the DB was corrupted.
I also feel that the service was not properly shutdown before server is down.

We now have adopter better server/data center maintenance and always maintain at least 40% free space in the DB.
Also, a weekly optimization of tables. Still using native DB with 35GB in size.

I hear you, we're native @ 30GB would be much more if we kept our pictures internally

    Hi David.

    Thanks for the reply.

But it's still the same.... still cannot open the database.

Do you run some backup tools to create fbk at this time or is there a process that "rebuild" the database from a backup?
Can you connect to the database if you open it "local" ? Has some other user the database open local?
Do you make it right, it works too!

    Hi,

I think that David meant theat you should open database via the file (your picture shows empty file field). The reason to stop service may be that Navision tries to find database via TCP.
I recommend you to erase ZUP file before any action.

If the opnly option is NEW, then how di you get to this prompt.

You have two options, either do it your way, or follow advise.

Follow the steps one at a time, and have some own watch you to make sure you are really doing them.

Ok, lets do this step by step.

Step 1. STOP THE SERVER. If you don't know how to stop the server then ask how to stop the server.

Not to confuse, so if it does then ignore this post. You posted a picture of how you were connecting to the database with no file name listed.
    Stop the service.
I believe the thought would be open the client that is installed on the server
Open the database directly & try to File->database->Expand

I have encountered the same problem while opening the database locally/server mode.
    below chekings i have done
    1.Cleared the all sessions
2.Killed the other logins from the Task manager
    3.reinstalled the Navision Client
