Category Transaction types

With regards to posting costs to projects via catagories and category groups.

Currently only categories of type 'Item' can be used when posting purchase orders, and only categoies of type 'Expense' can be used for posting purchase invoice journals.

My problems is I have a category that I sometimes use on purchase orders, but also sometimes get invoices that I need to code to the category (I cannot enter a purchase order for everything). I do not want to have to duplictate the category. (There are several hundred this applies to)

So what I am after is that has anyone tried making a change to allow different transaction type categories to be used on invoices / orders ?
