I've read some posts about virtualization of NAV and SQL on VMware.
Microsoft doesn't seem to support this environment.
But what about virtualization with Microsoft Virtual Server?
Yes I read it but it's only about VMWare and not about Microsoft Virtual Server.
I can't find if Microsoft supports NAV installation on Microsoft Virtual Server.
Interestingly, I asked Tom Loyal about this last year at Directions. His response was that he actually does all of his testing on virtual machines. So Microsoft may not officially support it, but ...
This is very new and unused by my knowledge. We have planned tests but not yet scheduled the exact dates.
We work very close with a VMWare partner and they are not considering moving away from VMware towards microsoft.
Why are you considering MS technology? Is it support? That is just politics, there are plenty of partners like us who do support it, also when there are issues.
In fact Microsoft will support officially virtualization technology within Navision with NAV 2009 (NAV 6) and only with Microsoft vitualization technologies (Hyper-V..). Also with some official partners such as Novell.
Actually they will not support other kind of environment.
But I agree others partners can maintain such environements.
But according to the forum virtualization is not recommended for production database due to non optimal performances...(i.e. without the help of virtualization guru...)
