production BOM costs

We currently use production BOM's for manufacturing some items. We have a problem though when it comes to checking prices of the BOM, when quoting for new orders because the cost on the item card shows last cost or unit cost, neither of which are an accurate cost of what the item will be next time we make one. Does anyone have an idea of how we get a report to show component costs.
We have been using Detailed last Costs report, this shows components costs as well as last cost, but if the BOM has some items which have BOMS themselves these prices could be wrong.

I think we can only rely on our last cost for each component on the BOM from the item card.
The problem we have at the moment is, if we are quoting a new job and the potential order is made up of items that need to be manufactured, and therefore have a BOM, we cannot rely on the last cost on the item card of each assembly because we may not have made one for 2 years, so we need to see the projected cost based on current costs of all the components.

Hi Alan,

The only way I got around this is to code it. It's not that bad - loop through the components and calculate fresh from the item card ( don't forget resources). I put this on the item and quote screen as info and it didn't effect performance.

An alternative function is to take a look at the Calc. Standard Cost function on the item card.

This process rolls up the cost for all levels in your production BOM. You may need to modify the process to look at the Last Direct Cost instead of the Standard Cost.
