Handling Damaged and sample Items

Dear All!
I would like to take your expert opinion about how to handle damaged and sample items.
At the moment, what we are doing is that we have a Damaged and Sample locations and we simply transfer the item to these locations.
Is there any better way or whatever we are doing is correct/ please comment.

There are 3rd party solution that provide more detailed solutions, but if this is low volume moving it to a diff location is a sound solution.
