hello, im pretty new to navision and in need of some help.

im trying to use the average price costing method for my items, but when i try and consume these items in the item journal the valua is not brought through. it also doesnt update any values in the unit price on the item card, resulting to any consumption having zero value and thus mucking up the moving average price.

what have i missed? what am i doing wrong? any advice much appreciated

cheers

could be several things...did you run the adjust cost batch (see Financial menu/inventory/valuation somewhere.

Is the production order finished? If not, I believe you need to finish it, something to do with flushing method, I'm not a production specialist...

its not really production. this is to do with the consumption of stock and the value at which it is consumed at. at present it wont default any values in on the item journal screen when using average cost, but does with fifo. just dont know why???????

Ultimately the cost will be taken from the inbound ledger transaction. I suggest you start again, make sure the item in stock you are going to consume has a known stock, consume it and then finish production and run the adjust cost - the cost of the item will be seen in teh finished goods. There is no difference between FIFO and average in this sense, in fact FIFO uses the average unit cost until the adjust cost is run, so if FIFO is working, you know average is as well.

Check if you have average costing by location set, and what the average cost at the location is.
