Hi,

We have multiple locations for the company which is implementing Navision.

We are in a way to assessing if it is good to having a single database for each country or it is good to have single merged database for all counrties.

Need your inputs on Advantages & Disadvantages of having:
-Single database for each country
-Single Merged database for multiple countries

Thanks in advance,

regards

    1 Database/all country =
    - easier to maintain
    - all code is same for all country : easier to follow up/training/... but what if business needs vary per country.
    - Difficult to keep in line with Localisations (regulations per country demand different code (eg. BE-version, IT version and US version are different on VAT/Sales Tax/...)
    - 1 down, all down
    - Only 1 license needed : unlimited companies allowed

    1 database/country =
    - better cope localisation
    - More maintenance
    - Specific needs can be developped per country without interference.
    - More licenses needed.

Other issues on performance can give advantage/disadvantage, but that's to technical for me.

    separate db,
I would add that if you are doing customization you have to do it for each database. Test it for each database.
When you upgrade, you upgrade each database separately. So you merge the objects 3 times for 3 databases, and you upgrade the 3 database each separately.

As far as one goes down, all goes down, you can still keep separate databases, but same objects.

    Hi,

    Thanks guys.

These were very valuable inputs to me.

I am further trying to classify under heads, the advantages & disadvantages of using single database or multiple database for different countries.
    1. Database Performance
    2. License
    3. Monitor & Control
    4. Localizations
    5. Implementing global practices across companies
    6. Maintenance
    7. AM/BE Version

Your additional valuable inputs across these points or additional points are most welcome. I will be glad... :)

    Thanks,
    Best regards,

    1. Database Performance (Single good, merge bad)
    2. License (Single bad, merge good)
    3. Monitor & Control (depends)
    4. Localizations (Single good, merge bad)
    5. Implementing global practices across companies (Single bad, merge good)
    6. Maintenance (depends)

Actually this is very subjective to companies. You can debate forever without specifications. It can be disadvantageous but due to the company's control you might have no choice at all.
