printing line item on documents

jasmonjasmon Member Posts: 5
Hi All,

I'm new to the world of NAV and try to find my way around.

My first question,
is it possible to print line items on documents?

in order entry you get line item i.e. 10000, 20000, 3000 etc.
I would like to have this printed on cusotmer documents like order conformation, packinglist and invoice.

Perhaps it is something like adding a field in the report lay-out of these documents?

Thanks your your support,
Jasmon

if you have permissions to the report designer (object disigner), then you can do this.

Start the Report- > press Ctrl+F2 now the report is in Designmode. Select View (menu) -> Sections. Now you are can edit the section. Here you can place the "Line No.". If you are new in navision and doesn't know what i mean, read first the Application Designer's Guide on product CD / DVD

Make sure that you print the relevant LineNo.
You sometimes have SourceLineNo. available as well, which could be more relevant.

Eg. the customer is interested in (or used to have) the Lineno. of the order on his Shipment Note...

I'm just curious : Why do people want that? Because they always had it? Does anyone really look to that LineN°? Is it standard in let's say SAP (I had these questions on several implementations)?

    Succes.

Line No. is an important feature in documents.
    1. It tells how many items are in the document, makes counting easier by looking at the last line no.
    2. Professional looking, easier to distinguish between lines that are items & descriptions/comments.
    3. Easier to spot if wrong items are mentioned on the document
    4. Making references to a particular item is easier

OK, you have a point that LineNo. could be helpfull in docs.

When you use Navision LineNos you might end up less professional.
On inserting line between 2 lines you get a number between, also on extended text, explode BOM functionality,etc....

a printed doc would be like :

    10000 item A 100 PCS
    15000 item B ...
    17250 txt for item B
    20000 item C

could it be usefull to create extra field for Print Line No?
