Version 5.0 SQL vs Native

Hi,
We are considering Version 5.0 for NAV and we currently use the Native Server
I have a question about the new functionality, is there any of it that will only work specifically on SQL (i.e. areas like Record Links, Outlook Integration) that means we should upgrade to Version 5.0 with SQL or are we able to stay on Native and still have the benefits of this new functionality?

For 5.0, all NAV specific functionality that is available on SQL Server should also be available on the native database server. It might be though that you are using external applications or 3rd party products and/or NAV add-ons that need SQL Server, that depends on your specific situation.0

Business Notification
Commerce Gateway (the Biztalk portion)
Other than that, I'm not aware of anything else that's SQL specific.Confessions of a Dynamics NAV Consultant = my blog

Business Notification is not SQL specific. You do need SQL to run the notification services but the NAV database can be native. Same for Commerce Gateway. There are no bugs - only undocumented features.0 -

But then if you don't have SQL, how will you be able to run Business Notification using only Native NAV?Confessions of a Dynamics NAV Consultant = my blog

Didn't say anything about them not having SQL. Just that NAV is not running on SQL. SQL would be on a different server. There are no bugs - only undocumented features.0 -
It mentions some mobile staging database..
http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/bb986826.aspxThe mobile staging database is a Microsoft SQL Server 2005 database that contains a subset of tables and data extracted from the business solution database.
so perhaps NAV doesn't need it - but you might need it somewhere??0 -
The is much more to SQL than just the out of the box functionality. With SQL you can have higher and better availablility, you can use better HW, online backups, SQL reporting serivces etc.0

yes I agree with Mark, the reasons for moving to SQL these days are much stronger than just basic functionality, you need to look at the whole picture.David Singleton0
