Capable to Promise (CTP) questions

Hi
I am trying to see how the CTP works since we will use this function in our company:
1. I have an old sales line where the shipment date was before the work date. However, when i run the CTP - it is still suggesting the same date which is before the work date. How can i prevent this?
2. Planned delivery date - after running CTP, system suggest the shipment date. After accepting the shipment date, i was assuming that the planned delivery date will be calculated accordingly as Shipment date + Shipping time assigned to the customer. Is this not how it is calculated?
