It's funny to notice but most NSC's (at least here in Switzerland) don't have any experience with SQLServer so far. Even though most of them are interested in SQLServer, each one wants to wait until another NSC has made (the bad) experience.
I know SQLServer for many years (versions 4.0 to 6.0) but have NO experience in connection with Navision.
>>- How many Clients can work on one (two) SQL Server<<
More or less unlimited. Depends of the power of your hardware.
>>- Is the SQl Server the same like the Navision Server<<
No. Navision Server is the proprietary Navision DB. SQLServer comes from Mictosoft and is usually recommended for large enterprises.
>>- Performance (Hardware) , Clients <<
Generally the performance should be better as unlike Navision Server SQLServer supports Record-Locking. Especially if many users use the same db at the same time, Batch operations like posting or printing reports should be faster. On the other hand, the original FinServer has a very clever technology calculating flow-fields which is very fast. SQLServer uses stored procedures to calculate flowfields. I have reason to believe that flowfields are being calculated much slower in SQLServer.
>>- Stability, Security, ...<<
Navision Server is much more stable than SQLServer 4.0 and 6.0. This is - by the way - the reason why in 1996 we changed our developement environment from SQLServer 6.0 to Navision!
I don't know how much SQLServer 7.0 improved.
However it has some big advantages over FinServer:
* Backups can be scheduled
* Security is much better
Hope this helps.
I would appreciate however if someone with real experience with SQLServer 7.0 and Navision would share his experience in this forum.
i am very glad if you can send or post same
