Hi All, I have a need to capture the lines on sales orders that can't be filled for whatever reason. I was thinking I would trap when qty's get changed or lines get deleted and make users select a reason code from a lookup table or other popup form. I want to limit the overhead needed to accomplish this so I wanted to really think it out diligently. However, I don't want to re-invent the wheel to get this done. I have got the runaround from Microsoft when I called since I'm a customer. I have also asked my VAR and they "are not aware of anything of the sort" that they have done or a granule that exists.

Has anyone ever approached this? Seems like it would be a pretty common need.

Yep, we've done for some of our customers. However, we did it so the user would need to click a button to log the changes or cancel the back order.

The reason is automating it will also log unintended mistakes during data entry or customer order changes.

Thanks Alex, this helps. It's always an architectural challenge to design something that captures more rich and useful data that doesn't flood the system with unuseful data and also not encumber users with too many choices. I am thinking of limiting the popup window with reason codes for just certain conditions like important customer #'s and/or item #'s or other values on the related sales line/header. I have also considered a totally different "change order" screen where you can move/cancel reservations and back order things when it's outside of the normal simple changes during data entry.

All good ideas. But I'd advise you to just keep it simple as upgrading it may cause you some headache.
