Hi,

We have developed the Addon Module in MS Navision and we need the source code protection for which we have developed. Is it we have to purchase the objects to protect the source. If it is there can anyone send me the email id or any contacts. Please do the needfull.

Think carefully about this. yes you can register your Add-On in a protected range, but this is only really for small components of the application. If I find an Add-On that is in the protected range, I will immediately tell all my clients to never buy it.

I agree with David, I had to implement one that came from Europe for a US client. It's horrible to make any modification. Upgrades/service pack harder to implement and at the end cost the client more to maintain it.

I completely agree that working with protected objects really is a pain for objects developed in another region - and probably not worth the trouble.

My question is why would you want to protect the source code? If it's a trade secret or a patentable process you could protect the development time through the standard ways you protect other intellectual property. If it's something that you cannot get a patent for then why bother?

In most cases I find that the pseudo open source nature of the code makes everyone's life better - from the Add On vendor through to Partner & end customer.

Maybe he's thinking of some sort of source code obfuscation?

Code obfuscation has the same problems.
