Yes, this is normal - All the information on the Purchase Order is copied to the Posted Receipt Note (If you use them) & the Posted Purchase Invoice, so no data is lost.
If you have a more recent version of Navision (3.10, 3.60 or 3.70), there is an "Archived Quotes/Orders" module available for post Purchase & Sales where you can manually "Archive" a copy of a document at any point. For a couple of our customers, we have made a small mod to the system so that it "Auto-archives" the document before posting it off completely & deleting the order.
It is not such a good idea to keep "Posted Orders" in the tables used by unposted documents (Purchase Header & Purchase Line) because this eventually slows the system down.
