Document Dimension table - records deleted

I am working with a company using version 5, using SQL Server. They tell me that periodically the sales order dimensions all disappear. They said it used to happen fairly often, then it stopped, then it occurred again last week.
I looked at one order and saw that the sales header dim1 and dim2 values were populated, but there were no records in the document dimension table.
Has anyone run across this before? I cannot think of what would cause this.
