Renaming Customer Records

Hi.

The desire is to rename the customer records to provide a btter/more logical sort order.

I did this once in a Cronus datbase with no (seeming) ill effects. It was a simple codeunit that just renamed the records one by one. Examinig the result I see that all the customer ledger entries are updated to the new Nos., and I am assuming that other related tables are updated as well.

So, is that all I need to do? I don't want to let the codeunit rip in the live database if there's something I don't know ...

Yes that's all to it. Make sure that you don't end up in endless loop and try to keep renaming records if you are looping through the customer records.

No problem with looping - the codeunit is a hard-coded list.

And do it in a weekend.

Renaming customers tend to lock a lot of resources and can easily lead to lock escalations on SQL.

It's done. It was "slow", but there weren't that many to do.
