Manufacturing Sub-contract process

Dear Navision users,

I have the following scenario,

Rawmaterial is 'B'

B undergoes Manufacturing process and the Finished Goods obtained is A

B undergoes 4 process totally.

Process 1 --> Inhouse process -->
Input : B
output : Semifinished A
(In Navision the output will be A)

Process 2 --> Inhouse process -->
Input : Seminfinished A from Process 1
Output : Semifinished A
(In Navision the output will be A)

Process 3 --> Subcontract process -->
Input : Semifinished A from process 2
Output : Semifinished A

Process 4 --> Inhouse process -->
Input : Seminfinished A from process 3
Output : A (Finished Goods)

In navisioin for all the process the output is A and the inventory will not get updated untill the last operation is completed. Since after process 2 the inventory is not updated how to send it to sub-con ?

Is there any other way to address this scenario ? Can variants be used ? or is there any other way ?

Thanks and Regards,
Venkatesh

    Process 3 is simply a sub contracted operation. Have you used the subcontracting functionality in Navision where the purchase order buys a "service" in the route. If not try it, if you have where does it fail for you?

    Hi venkatesh,

    In navision, u cant subcontract inorocess product.

    U create two items called A,A1,A2.
    Create prod. order for A2 as raw mateial B, after process1 & process2 output will be A2.

    Now subcontract A1 as raw material A2. Output will be A1.

    Create prod. order for A as raw material A1. Output is A.
    This will be very complex but its one of d probable solution. :-k

    Not sure what you are trying to say here but there is nothing stopping you have a subcongtracting operation in the middle of a route, I believe your statement is incorrect and misleading. You establish a subcontracting workcentre, and put it in your routing. The subcontracting worksheet can then be used to generate the service purchase order used to define the subcontracting work. If you want to reflect components being sent to the vendor to perform a sub-assembly etc you can enter a manual consumption journal to record the withdrawal of components from inventory, alternatively you can assign a routing link code to automatically remove it. You could set a picking operation in the route to define this as well.

    There is no need to raise separate sub-production orders as you seem to believe there is, assuming my understanding is correct :D
