I went there and had to create Value Model, FA Journal ...
i then went to General Ledger - Journals - Fixed Assets - Lines - Proposals - Depreciation Proposal , as specified and created a new line with Transaction Type : Acquisition .
Then Proposal Button and Dep. Proposal but nothing happens. I dont see any value or any output and we are in the same scraan without any Info being shown.
I am also able to run Dep. Proposal again and agian.
Is there any more set up which i have to do. In case anyinez having any online help, pls post the URL as well.
I also tried changing the Transaction Type from Acquisition to Depreciation , but it gives the following error :
Message (16:28:49)
Acquisition for fixed asset VIN_001, value model DEF, does not exist.
Fixed asset with status Not yet acquired cannot have transaction type Depreciation.
I have purchased the Assets and have also converted some of the Projects into Assets.
Both of them have the same status as "Not yet acquired". So i believe that first we need to acquire it and then Depreciate it. Thus Acquisiton Proposal and then Depreciation Proposal.
As posted, if i change the Transaction Type to "Depreciation" in GL -> Journals -> Fixed Assets -> Lines --> Transaction Type column , it throws me the error :

I have the pdf of the manual but threz nothng mentioned about Depreciation .
I have searched both in FA and Fixed Assets manual ..... but did not get anything concrete.
True ... there also is the issue... im stuck up in that form itself General Ledger - Journals - Fixed Assets - Lines - Proposals - Depreciation Proposal.
Neither m i able to acquire, nor able to Depreciate. There is no option for Drop down for Acquired. Option available are Not Yet Acquired, Open, Closed, Scrapped, Sold.
I am only able to make Fixed Assets or move Projects to Fixed Assets, but not go further with respect to Acquire or Depreciate them [:(]
So you have not recorded the acquisition through a general journal (or other option)? If you post a journal representing the acquisition I believe the status should change to allow you to then run the depreciation proposal.

I think for acquiring as well, we need to run the Acquisition proposal. I did the same but still the status shows as "Not yet Acquired".
We can change the satus to only "Not Yet Acquired, Open, Closed, Scrapped, Sold." This are the options available.
I did change ths status to "Open" and then ran Depreciaiton profile but of no use.
Have you set up a posting profile yet? Could this be the reason why you couldn't get a new acquisition journal?
Here's the reference section from MSDN for fixed assets configurations & postings in AX. It's kind of handy. http://msdn2.microsoft.com/en-us/library/aa498367.aspx
yes, we have set the proper Posting profile as well. I had gone through the msdn as well. Have not found a proper flow for Depreciation step wise which will help us.
Everything in msdn is kinda scattered and not even linked which can be figured out as to how do we go about getting the Depreciation done.
The normal step which i believe will be : Create Fixed Assets -
> Attach Value models -> define Life, Rates & Type -> Acquire the Asset -> Run the Depreciation.
Double check if you have entered acquisition price, service life and acquisition date of the asset in each value model attached. Usually there are 2 value models, book and tax.
You have to do acquisition for each value model.
GL > Fixed Assets > Journals > Lines > Proposal > Acquisition proposal
This should bring up the journal with correct date, fixed asset number, book value model, acquisition price, and offset account providing the value model of the asset has correct depreciation profile and posting profiles attached.
For acquisition with the tax value model, in the same journal you proposed above, click on "Value models" tab, choose the tax value model, put in the acquisition price again.
Alternatively you could do a separate tax acquisition proposal providing you have set up a tax acquisition journal type with correct posting layer.

I suggest you get onto Partnersource and download the manual.

But not sure abt the whole process in AX
Probably a silly question but in the value model attached to your asset I presume you have an acquisition price?
