Merge companies into one

pangpang Member Posts: 13
Does any one ever done a project to merge companies into one? Our client has been gone live for a couple years and they need to combine 4 companies into one.
We realized this is really hard as there will be some Documents have the same numbers in diffirent companies. Also, in the new company we need to keep the company name for where it originally came from.
Any input is welcom!

Thanks,

What version of Navision are you using? Newer versions of Navision have built in Consolidation functions.

Do you need to have everything in one company? An alternative is to close out the existing companies, consolidate them all into a new company and start with just that company in a new database. Then keep an old copy of the original database around for historical purposes. This would ensure the new database is simplified and clean.

    They are on version 4.
And they don't like to do the consolidate. They like to bring everything over without any grouping. ](*,)

Ok that sounds like it could be a bit of a nightmare trying to merge all of that data together. I don't think i've ever heard of anyone trying to do that.

Do they just want an archive of the posted documents? That would be a lot easier then merging together everything in an integrated fashion. You may want to take a step back and look at why they are doing this and suggest alternatives...as I see this could get very messy very quickly if you have to merge all of the data. If it's mainly for reporting and not for transaction processing maybe try building a seperate data warehouse that collects everything.

Might turn into just impossible though the word itself says I am possible...

Normally the approach followed by us is to import the opening balance of the other company in the more significant company. Technically as jlandeen says it will be a nightmare and also functionally dosen't make any sense other than that the user will be comfortable navigating all the entries of all the companies in One Database and one company.

Search the forum and you will found the same advise.

You have to treat the company that's being merged as a new data conversion. There's no easy way to merge the detail transactions for 2 companies together.
