reclassifying a fixed asset

I cant seem to reclassify a fixed asset that has a salvage value,if it has depreciations posted against it. when i try to post the reclassification through the FA G/L journal, i get an error saying Book Value cannot be negative or less than Savlage value

Are you trying to reclassify the remaining value or original acquisition value?

You can't reclassify the original amount because you've already depreciated it. You can only reclassify the remaining amount.

but if i acquire the asset, depreciate it and salvage it all in one year and reclassify in the same year i can post reclassification. its only if i try and post reclassification in a different year that it doesnt work
