UserName password combination invalid

Hi,
I'm new to the company I work for, but have been working with NAV as a Developer on and off since 1998.
Anyway. We use SQL 2005. We are running 4.00 SP3 on the front end, and 3.70.A on the back end. We use database authentication.
A user was getting the Username/password combination is invalid message. I went into SQL and reset the password. I tried logging in as that user and received the same error. I went into Navision, and the user did not exist in the User Setup table. I added the user. I tried to log in and received the same error. I went into Tools->Security->Database logins and noticed the user had an expiry back to March (she was on maternity leave). I removed the expiry date. I still couldn't log in with her account. The account is not locked in SQL.
I'd appreciate any advice.
cheers,

1) Check the Security mode in Database-Alter-Extended. Best is to use Standard option, not extended.
2) Run the synchronization in the security menu to synchronize the permissions
3) Check that the user has Public rights to the DB on MS SQL.0 -
