Problem in order planning

shreenivasvaidyashreenivasvaidya Member Posts: 28
Hello,

I have 'zero' inventory of an item A (as seen on its item card).I use item A in a BOM.

Thro' the path <quote, sales order, order planning> I tried to plan for item A.Every time I got the message --'Item is available,no planning lines are generated'.

Now, if item A is not in stock, why do I get this message?Am I doing any mistake?

    Namaste !

    some clarification is required

Is S.O. is raised for item 'A'?
what is the Replenishment system for item 'A'
is there any Purc / Prod / Transfer order raised for that item for
same location as that of S.O. location

    Hello darshanm,

Here are the clarifications you asked for--

1)SO is raised for item B in which only item A is used.(process is making fabric from yarn).

2)Replenishment system for item A is 'production order'.

3)Result is same whether a production order is raised or not.

Please check the inventory of Item 'B', there must be sufficient
inventory of it in S.O. location.

If S.O. is raised for item 'B', and there is sufficient invt. in S.O.
location, Then system will not give any replenishment order.

Since Item 'A' is a child of item "B', there is no need for
    production of item A also.

    HI,

I think the mistake is made by using orderplanning here. You enter a quantity of item B on a sales line. The replenishment method of Item B is production. The BOM of item B has item A included.

If your run orderplanning on the sales order, the orderplanning will only look to the items mentioned in the sales order (so only item B).

See help text of orderplanning form:
    Level-by-Level

The Order Planning window uses parts of the MRP logic in Navision, except, it only considers one product level at a time. Therefore, it will only propose to create production orders for one production BOM level at a time, and if those new production orders introduce new demand, the plan must be recalculated (Calculate Plan) to pick up that second-level demand.

So if the production order of B is created, then the orderplanning might see the demand of item A, but surely not before that moment.

    Concerning your starting point
    Thro' the path <quote,sales order,order planning>
, please be ware that NO proposal will be made if you create a quote. Only orders can generate demand and not a sales quote.

This is w.r.t. the response from darshanm.

I had earlier pending prodn. orders, in the sense that I could not post output journal. Because of those pending items in pipeline , probably the system did not generate any requirement for Item A.

FL was right. If you are using Order Planning then system will
raise the Prod Order against S.O item only and not for child item.

    You use planning worksheet
