You mean, you want to check witch what client you can open the database?
I ask this, because there is a difference between the application version and the client/database version... .
Anyway, if yes, it is only possible with SQL Server. There, you have a table: $ndo$dbproperty. in this table, there is only one record. There is a field called "databaseversionno" and "clientdatabaseversionno" (there is even a field called "databasemagic" :-k ).
With this fields, you should be able to do your magic. The author of thistool somehow figured it out... .
