If you want Commerce Portal (ie a website) you need Commerce Server. If you want Commerce Gateway (ie an edi solution) you need BizTalk.

Both are MS products. You'd either have to buy them or have access to them through MSDN.

The last time Commerce Portal was on a product CD was 3.7 I believe, so be aware that this is no longer a supported product.

Go to the start DC in CD1 of NAV and go to Additional interfaces. There when u click on commerce portal it is written that the product has to be installed from version 3.7 AND IT IS Supported.

Last year every NAV partner got the (long) official announcement that commerce portal will not be developed anymore. I don't know any partner in the netherlands who is still implementing Commerce portal as the customer will never be able to upgrade this solution. IN the netherlands, every has started with tradepoint from scriptserver. Even Microsoft recommends this here...

No I really don't think that it is supported anymore (of course I could be wrong). They are not doing any work on making it compatible anymore.

What they are saying is that if you choose to install CP from a 3.7 CD on a leter version of NAV, then you are on your own, but if you call them with questions they will try and find someone who has some answers for you. In reality, this means that you will not get very far, because nobody really knows anything about it anymore.

There are MUCH better solutions than CP (Tradepoint as mentioned, Activigence is another one).

Tradepoint and Activigence are better ideas but I don't want to spend money when I can get some web access by using OLD CP.Is there any way that I can install Commerce Portal from 3.7 in NAV 4.O Database?(Considering that no update is required.
    Thanx in advance.
    Looking for some good reply.

Sorry to say so, but that is really short term thinking. First of all, the standard commerce portal (in almost every case) has to be customized, which won't be necessary with tradepoint or other solutions. Then, if you look at the TCO over 3 or 5 years, it will be much higher...

OK "p.willemse6",tell me that how can I allow my users to access navision from web.
I know that it is done through portal but do I need to configure Commerce Gateway??

I heard that gateway is necessary. Is it so?
    Kindly reply soon.
    thanx

Suit yourself, but in the end you will end up spending much more money in consulting fees from your partner, when they have to spend time troubleshooting issues. This for a product that had a HUGE TCO to begin with, now you want to install versions of software that are no longer supported, on platforms that were not even available at the time. I think it is a mistake to think that you will save money by using CP.

There is a good reason why CP is no longer on the product CD...

I feel like you are going around in circles. You are asking the same questions, after already having gotten an answer to it.

    Again....
Commerce Gateway is the NAV document exchange functionality, using Biztalk Server. It is NOT used for web access. You will NOT have to use CG to give web access into NAV.

Commerce Portal was the old NAV webshop, which is effectively no longer supported (you will find it is virtually impossible to get support on CP). Going down this road is a big mistake in my opinion.

Employee Portal is the Sharepoint interface to NAV, with very limited functionality. There is no official documentation on how to create new webparts for NAV or how the current ones work, so it will be very difficult to expand on this functionality.

I advise you to get in touch with your partner, and have them show you what these products can do. See for yourself what the strangths and weaknesses are, and then decide which one to use.

Acces NAV from the web is not done via the commerce portal, that is a webshop! The employee portal can be used for acces of NAV by employees, however this does not deserve a price also.

Commerce gateway is a totally different product, it is a business to business "translation" tool, please read some factsheets!

By the way, I don't know if you have a hosting partner who hosts MS commerce server, otherwise you will have to buy it for something like 15.000 euros... good luck, Tradepoint.Net is cheaper :D

no..... Employee Portal is NOT on the 3.7 CD. The one on the 3.7 CD is called Commerce Portal, and that product does not work with Sharepoint. The product that runs with Sharepoint is called Employee Portal, and you will find it on the product CD, I think it was introduced in 4.0 SP1.
  • aliennavaliennav Member Posts: 449
    Yes u r right,EP is on 4.0 cd.
IN 3.7 it's commerce portal & User portal.

Now, what is the difference in User portal and employee portal of these 2 different versions.
Also,What are the functionalities of employee portal?
  • p.willemse6p.willemse6 Member Posts: 216
User portal is very old, unstable and not to be implemented. Employee portal followed it up.

    Forget the user portal ASAP.
