At the moment my company is planning to only upgrade the Navision Client executables, not the database. Since it is purely a client upgrade, what benefits do 4.0SP3 and 5.0 bring, strictly from the executables side. We will be keeping the code from the 3.7 DB for a while longer.
We are also debating going to SQL Server 2005 from 2000.
Looking for thoughts on what you think the best combination is.
3.7 database / 4.0SP3 or 5.0 Client / SQL 2000 or SQL 2005
Thanks

So it could be pretty dangerous.
But i'm working on native nav DB, so with sql nav DB could be different and the system shouldn't ask you that. Do you confirm? Have you tried to do that on a test machine?
Bye
BTW how big is your DB? How many users?

It's not a problem, I have a customer running 4.0 SP3 VistaFix on 3.60 objects with lots of development.
Database is 60 Gb on SQL2000.
We did not change a thing on the SQL Serve.
I have made a post on the issues.
The customer have som VERY minor issues. (Color on Vista and we had an issue (rights) with user change of password on native database).
Wait a week or two, some new SP's might be on the way.
5.0 SP1 is not good, as some things from 4.0 SP3 i missing !!!!!!!
There is ONE issue, after a week there is NO way back !!!!!!!!
You can go back after one day using the 3.70 backup.
Restore 4.0 backup on 3.70 is NOT an option.
Customer run "Standard Security".
Get hold of whitepaper on 4.0/5.0 security. (Extended/Standard)
If you run Extended on 3.70 objects you need to do som manual
changes to "User rights".

Right !!!!!!
Things in 4.0 SP3 is missing in 5.0 (present version)
5.0 SP1 with fixes from 4.0 SP3 is just around the corner.

Old Server - 3.70B clients, 3.70 DB, SQL 2000
New Server - 4.03 clients, 3.70 DB, SQL 2005
Their database is 70 GB with 50 users. They have had no major issues. The infamous SQL 2005 issue does rear its head once in a while. But it has not been that bad. Their IT department had some year-end budget left, so they went a little nuts on the server. I was not about to stop them, besides is there any such thing as too much server?
Server - 4 dual core processors, 64 GB RAM, 38 drives
This blurb about 5.0 SP1 being around the corner is pure speculation.

Can be a lon................................g time waiting then.
I hope not.
Read the post and other posts in here.
Issues fixed in 4.0 SP3 is BACK in 5.0 !!!!!!!!
Try check the build versions, 4.0 SP3(+) is ahead of 5.0.
My customer is NOT happy. In a short time nobody will
install 5.0, as 4.0 SP3 has less bugs. You don't sell many "StyleSheets" or "Document links" that way. MS understand this.
Why do MBS send out 4.0 SP3, if 5.0 customers with the SAME issues
can/must live with the issues for more than a year or longer ?
Right, thats not very likely, official or not, I trust MBS will fix it.
