Multiple costs for one item

I'm hoping someone can help me with this. We have items that are purchased from china, this one item can have two different costs on it. One cost applies if it is stocked by us in Canada, the other cost is if it is stocked in China. The cost variance doesn't have anything to do with transfer charges, the vendor actually charges us different based on rebates they get from their government. Is there any way to store two average costs for one item? I've looked into stockkeeping units, and the direct unit price is different but the average is the same for all locations. I was also told to use item charges for the cost difference, but I don't think this will really work the way I want. Any suggestions?

In inventory setup there is a field "Average Cost Calc. Type", make sure it's
"Item & Location & Variant"0 -
Yes, I've set this, but it doesn't change my average cost in the stockkeeping units (unless there's somewhere else I should be looking?) I've contacted my var and they told me to use the item charges for the difference, which won't work for me. When I post an item into a different location, the unit costs and last direct costs are different, but the average seems to be from both locations combined, and is the same on both locations.0

Did you run adjust cost?
One more question. Do you purchase the goods at different cost for each location?0 -
Yes and yes, I also purchased an item into the two locations after running the adjust cost, the average cost turned out the same for both locations before and after the postings, with extremely different costs. Should it not be happening like this? maybe I'll have to try more testing and see if I get any different results.0

I've run and posted two PO with different location with different cost and the SKU had the difference Average Cost. What version are you on?0

I'm on 3.6, that's the one this forum is on, right? what version are you trying it on? my sku's have the same average.0

Version 3.60 has lots of issues with average costing , which were never really resolved. There were some hotfixes with interim workarounds, but as this version is not supported anymore, the only solution is to upgrade to 4.0 (or 5.0, but this will require a two-step upgrade because MS only provides 5.0 Upgrade Tools for 3.70 or 4.0).Kai Kowalewski0

I take it you don't get the same results on a different version. I guess we'll just have to manage through, thanks.0
