Hot fixes are used to fix what the service packs break.

Seriously, hot fixes are critical updates that are released between service packes. They will typically address a specific issues.

Service packs are periodic roll-ups of hot fixes plus additional updates.
There are no bugs - only undocumented features.

    Thanks bbrown...

Now, tell me, I am installing Navision at client's place for the first time. Rightnow, NAV 4.0 SP3 is available and HF- 5 is available. Do I need to import all the HF from 1- 5 or only HF- 5 will do?

When Microsoft releases a hotfix, they also tell you whether it is a cumulative hotfix or not. Right now, they are working on (and should have released by now) a cumulative hotfix number 6. This particular hotfix is supposed to include everything from 1-5, plus what came next.
