Looking for a report to reflect the average invoices posted, checks processed & printed, etc. over the past few years. Will the system produce a report to display statics like this?

What you are looking for is something that is very company specific to yoru business model so its not likely you will find something like that standard in Navision. I would suggest taking a look at http://www.costcontrolsoftware.com they have some great solutions for stuff like this.

Not out of the box.
You can check out Business Snapshot addon to see if they provide this.
In a case like this I have created a date table and add flowfields to it like Sales(LCY),Sales(Qty.), Purchases..., No. of Invoices etc.
By this way you can view the results by day, week, month, quarter and year. And if you add some flowfilter it is a really nice form to analysis the business processes in time.

Can you explain a little more on what "increase work flow from one year to the next" mean?
Do you mean ROI?
