Hi,

What's being used these days for remote Order Entry in 4.0 for customers who have 20 to 100 remote users on desktops or laptops? Any good Web Based Front Ends (not PDA)?

    Use VPN and RDP.

VPN for the security and RDP for the performance.

It's much cheaper than Citrix or Terminal service.

Could you tell me the difference between RDP and Terminal service. As far as I know is terminal services based on RDP (remote desktop protocol, port 3389 for the router) and Citrix based on ICA protocol. SO far as I know is Terminal services and RDP the same.

I've seen many discussion on net concerning the situation if RDP needs VPN for security reason. Like I understood, is this not necessary as data transported by RDP is allready secured.

RDP is crippled version of terminal services that MS released for Non Server Windows.

RDP protocol has been hacked, so people can decrypt the message going through the internet.
So to make it more secure, you would send RDP encrypted data encrypted with VPN protocol. Basically double encryption.

People use RDP and terminal services interchangeably because you use the same client.
