Hi there,
We are relatively new to Navision - and one of the things I did with Navision 3.60 was to go into most of the forms and expand the headings, move the form around and generally make it look a bit better. As I'm sure you all know these settings are contained in the ZUP file. We then saved this Zup file and when installing a new client copied it to the relevant area - then when the new client is used you get a standard starting point.
I have gone through exactly the same exercise for version 3.70 - but when the ZUP file is copied to another client it doesn't pick up the changes.
Anyone know if I'm missing something here :?:
Thanks,
Best regards,
Geoff Collins.

As far as I am aware nothing has changed regarding the zup in 3.70. Can you verify on a clean install where the zup is created (I think this differs on the operating system?) and then replace it. You are correct, it should work.
I had just done a clean install on a new client - and the ZUP file was created in the normal place (for WinXp) i.e. C:\Documents and Settings\<user id>\Application Data and called fin.zup - as you would expect. I overwrote this copy with my amended one and it didn't seem to take any effect - I also looked after exiting Navision (on the new client) and the ZUP file modification time was updated - so it was definitely looking at my modified ZUP file.
For info - both the PC I created the ZUP file on and the new client were both looking at the demo DB (in the client folder of the PC on which they were running) - both accessing the CRONUS company.
I also tried specifying the ID=<filename> on the command line properties to specifically tell it where to find the ZUP file. This has no effect.
Any ideas gratefully accepted

With the new zup file, if you then alter any screen settings with your current login, and then close down and reopen Navision, are the new ones saved? Its not a rights to the zup file issue?
Yes if I change any settings close / re-open Navision then the settings are saved - it's not permissions.
I have also found that if you create another DB and restore a company etc into it and open up Navision with DB1 and make changes to layout etc and then open DB2 the layout changes are not there - then open DB1 again and the layout changes are there :!:
It would seem that there is some kind of link between the DB and the ZUP file settings - even though it's the same ZUP file.
I then tried copying my original DB over the DB on the new client - and opened this up - ALL my layout changes were then there :!: - it looks like something has definitley changed with ZUP in 3.70.
Thanks,
Geoff

but making settings available to others via the zup-file is over, when you edit an object.
e.g. the Contact-overview settings are lost on editing the contact table or the contact-form
I came to the conclusion, that setting a standard on the server only works by optimizing EACH form. This will make a new user getting the Standard views and also gives standard views to objects after they've been changed...
I would also suggest rather to go to the actual forms that you would like to apear as per you specifications and via Ctrl+F2 edit the form you are on, by increasing the column header sizes and drag the fields around where you would like them to be as default and enable and make visible those fields you also would like to see as per defaults.
Keep your code and setting standard and on the objects and not on the ZUP file. Should your ZUP file get corrupted then you have to replace it in order to get all your settings back in order.
Avoid going down to workstation level for maintenance.
