Lot Tracking on Recieved Items

My customer needs to track the lot numbers for items coming into the facility which are then added to a finished good. They need to be able to use the serial number on the finished good to figure out which lot number a piece came from. I think I have figured this out now, but I also need to allow end users to select specific incoming lots to use on specific finished goods. How is this done in Navision?

Thank you in advance,

Mike

    Hi Mike

You will have to use manual consumption journals for the components, then on the journal you define the item tracking lines under the production order button. But from memory there are numerous issues regarding serial/lot numbers and manufacturing, and I think this is an area where issues exist, try it and see!
    I do not know why, it's just how I have always done it . . . .

I figured out how to do this manually, but I wanted to also see if there was an automatic way to do it. I tested it, but could not find the information I needed. For instance, I created an item - 10001 with a bom containing item 10002 (qty 10). I then created a sales order for item 10001 (qty 10). Then, I created a purchase order for item 10002 (qty 70 lot #111), and another purchase order for item 10002 (qty 100 lot #112).

Then I created a production order for the sales order, and released it, automatically the system posts consumption. When I looked at the Item Ledger entry, there is an entry for -100 on item 10002. Then I looked at the supporting entries, and thier were 2 - one for -70 and another for -30...which tells me that the system is posting entries for the seperate purchase orders...but I could nor find any information related to the lots. Is the system just posting seperate entries for cost accounting, or is there a place where it is also recording the lots???

    Thank you for your time,
    Mike

    Hi

I am afraid this is one of the many issues I referred to earlier - automatic consumption can take place, but it pays no regard to serial/lot numbers (hence the suggesiton of doing it manually). As you would have item tracking switched on at this point you can understand what an absolute mess this would make of your inventory. Simply put - it does not work

once u select auto flushing method, the consumptiong will post automatically. if u want to specify which lots are used, i think u need to use manual flushing.

You can use automatic flushing, but when creating the production order, you must specify which lots to use....otherwise, the sytem will just pull from the inventory and won't specify lots....you do this by selecting the Item-Components from the production item, and then select item-Item Level Tracking...From there you enter in the quantity amounts that are to be used and from which lots.
