I know how to set the traceflag, but I haven't been able to find any official MS documentation about it in neither the w1w1ism.pdf nor the w1w1isql.pdf.

Where does MS describe the need for this flag?

Like many applications navision does all sorts of stuff it shouldn't with system tables and such. The security model of 2005 stops this so the trace flag essentially weakens security to make it like sql2000

Thanks, but where does MS mention it during the NAV-installation or NAV-migration? There should even be a section about what to do when upgrading an existing NAV-SQL from SQL2000 to SQL2005.

I have only seen it it newsgroups, and by the fact that you get the errormsg if you don't set it.

You must have missed it when you read those documents :-k

    Section 1.7 of w1w1isql.pdf:
Before you can access SQL Server 2005 from Microsoft Dynamics NAV, you must set
trace flag 4616 on SQL Server 2005.
and it then shows screenshots of how to do it
  • just out of interest is this just 4.0 sp3 or should this trace flag be set with any nav 4.0 to sql 2005

Ahh, I only checked the NAV4SP3 docs and not NAV5. My mistake.
How could I expect MS to update the docs on the NAV4SP3 cd just because they changed the requirements 8)

I didn't know it was not in the SP3 documentation, but I'm not surprised that stuff like that was overlooked
