regarding item

Hello friends,
we have a client, who manufacture conveyer belt.
they make belts according to customer order, and currently they are not using any system.
they get order of belt in this faishon:

1000x315/3 3x1.5 M=24.

basically this is describes dimension of belt. Eg. 1000 can vary from 500-2000 and similarly everything varies.
The issue is:
how should we code the item.
should we define all combination of dimensions (it will be around 2000) or should we use item variants?
pls suggest.
regards
pranav

I would use Items for each dimension. It makes things simpler, the only bad side is that you'll have a lot more items.

    Hi !

You can use the Variants, But if you use variants, Then
you can not define certain item relatd parameters on variants

e.g Gen. Bus. Posting Grp, Inv. Posting Grp
    BOM, Routing etc.

All the variants will have same parameters as defined on Item card.

I would also recommend the creation of different item if the measurement are fixed. If the measurement is variable based on production then variant can be used. The problem with variant is that they have the same properties as the main item card have.

actually.. if we go for making item for all possible dimensions.. then there will be very high volume for one type of item.
if we go for item variants, then there is another issue, the bom will vary for different items?
what could be the optimum way out?
there could be more than 2500 nos. of conveyer belts, if we take all the possibility.
    pls suggest

2500 isn't that many items. What will be the total for all the items?

actually, 2500 is the possibility of dimensions of conveyer belts.
apart frm conveyer belt, they manufacture rubber sheets and many other rubber accesories. if we combine all the finished goods, then there would be over 5000 nos. of finished goods.
