Hi again!
When we purchase Navision (4.0 SP3), are we supposed to get any printed manuals, use guide, reference guide, etc with it?
We got only the CD media and a letter from MS through our partner
TIA

Thanks for the reply.
Any suggestions for a newbie like me other than the documents available on the CD?
If I am to move towards NAV developer track, what would be best way of doing it? Where can I learn more about the IDE and code syntax?

Not true. You can download the training video and manual for free on Customersource. You need to get your customersource login from the company that you purchase Navision from.Confessions of a Dynamics NAV Consultant = my blog

Is that a manual or a training manual?deadlizard wrote:Not true. You can download the training video and manual for free on Customersource. Hmm... I'm not sure how to answer that question Luc. It describes how to use it as well as what fields you should watch out for. So I guess it's both.
What other kind of useful manual is there?

Many years ago there were 2 different sets of manuals. One was purely training and the other was a user guide. When Version 3 came out the user guides stopped being produced in favour of online help.

Actually it stopped because Navision just could not keep up. it got to the point, where the biggest thing setting a release date for a version was having all the manuals revised and checked. Keep in mind that in the "guarantee" it says that the product should perform as written in the manuals, so often code couldn't change because then it would not match the manual.
Of course with Microsoft resources out there, things really should be different now.David Singleton0 -
IN my experience the manuals were useless in most cases, because many things are modified during the implementation. All it does is tell you what the out of the box system does, and that's just not enough in most cases.0

I think the training videos are great for a general overview of Navision. The way it's layed out, lookups, drill downs, etc.
Of course, to get a complete functional training, the new employee would need to learn their process and how Navision fits to that business process.Confessions of a Dynamics NAV Consultant = my blog

Thank you all for the reply and comments:
Unfortunately, we are yet to receive access to CustomerSource and an email from MS says it has some "problems" to give access to our areas. and promised to give during May
Hope i will be able to download the videos during that period. In meantime, we are printing ALL docs from cd with the hope of reading them all
Thanks again"A bove maiore discit arare minor"-"From the old ox, the young one learns to plow."0 -
