Setting up Item Tracking Codes

Is it possible please to help me with the below,

I am trying to setup Item Tracking codes to items which have entries already posted in Item Ledger (such Items were not set to use Item Tracking). The system is giving me an error - "You cannot change Item Tracking Code because ledger entries exist".

Is there any easy way to setup Item Tracking codes for these items?

Hi,
thanks for your quick reply. This will really create a problem in our case since these items have been in use for quite some time and contain quite a number of historical entries. If new item codes are created all historical data related to item will be lost . Besides same item no is used in an external application and changing items will create havoc.

Is there no simpler way of doing it ](*,)

way of doing this can be..but it is NEVER recomended..

does that mean (for the non recommended solution) to run a report/ code unit for both items and all item related entries from all Inventory related data, and add tracking code + ficticious Lot No. This is TOO RISKY

In my case it was exactly opposite. My client wanted
to remove the Item Tracking from item against which
all the ledgers already created. But there is no option
except you have to create a new item

You can call it as a problem OR disadvantage of Navision.
