About Backup

Hi..

I read the following in Making Backup Database manual

"If you choose to make backups without using the Navision backup function, you must first test the database for errors."

What are the other ways to make backup than standard Navision?

    Hi...

What you have read is as follows :--

When you take the backup other than Navision Backup (Tools--Backup), the system does not check the integrity of Database. You can simply copy the database file (fdb) & keep at safe place but it will not ensure the integrity of the database. On the other hand if you take the backup through "Tools--Backup", Navision checks all the tables,Object & other structure of the Database. Moreover, you will get the database in commpressed manner, hence space would also consure less.

Hoooo. Give us some time for replying. You asked the question on a Holiday (=Easter Monday) in a big part of this planet.

Other ways to make a backup:
-copy the files, like stelco wrote.
    -use a some file-backup system
-SQL backup (in case your DB is in SQL)

Hotcopy is like copying the files, BUT it does some check integrity.

If I make backup with hotcopy is there any tool or script with what I can check that backupped database is ok.
It's quite annoying to run Navision every time and to check this way.

I particularly have not take backups. but i know it is pretty easy with manual backup using the navision backup function.

My problem is how to schedule the navision to backup daily at a particular time. Auto backup i mean. I want someone to lead me through the steps please.
    Thanks.

Hotcopy can perform a consistency check with the backup database. Simply turn it on, and there should be no need to check the database yourself...

    From the manual:

A consistency check should be performed after the backup files are saved.
The consistency check is a bit for bit comparison of the original database
    with the backed up one.
The possible values are: yes and no
