Server Port

dabeldabel Member Posts: 44
I have a client that does not want to use port 1433. They have no problem connecting to the database using windows authentication, however, each time they close and come back in, they have to renter the port number. I have tried setting the port in the parameters of the target line, but I am either doing something incorrectly or this is not designed to work this way.

Any suggestions?

Thanks

    1) By the port no. I assume that you are using MS SQL server... thanks for saying that... ;-)
    2) You can start the Client Network utility (C:\WINDOWS\system32\cliconfg.exe) on each PC (part of the MS SQL client instalation) and set the default TCP port to other one.

I am in the process of trying the first suggestion, they were using the actual server name and not the IP Address. First I am going to have them enter the IP in the standard connection dialog window, if that fails, then the shortcut parameter and if that fails then the config utility.

Sorry about leaving out the SQL reference, I thought about that later, but got distracted.

Thanks for the help, both sound as if they will resolve the issue.
