Fixed Asset methods

We are looking into purchasing the fixed asset granule. However, as I understand from my controller, the methods that come standard (SL, DB1, DB2, DB1/SL, DB2/SL) are rather antequated and ACRS and MACRS have been widely used for several years. From the development standpoint, without being able to play with this granule until we purchase it, I do not know what lengths I would need to go to in order to set up the various MACRS methods utilizing the "user-defined" method.
If anyone else has faced this, please let me know how you addressed this, or if Attain (we're on 3.01) does actually support these methods as a standard and the literature I reviewed is incorrect.
