Bin Tracking

Hi guys,
My client wants to know how the Bin Tracking is working in 4.0 SP3. Is it working fine or not? He knows there have been some problems with it but needs to know if it has been addressed in later versions, he is currently on 3.01 version.

Bins are handled differently (there is no Bin field in Item Ledger Entry etc.) in 4.00 when compared with 3.01. Which problems you mean exactly?0

Bins work fine...as long as you stay away from item tracking. I have experienced significant issues in all versions of 4 when dealing with lot control for example. Hopefully this has been addressed in 5.My mommy says I'm special0

Damn, The Client needs Item Tracking. If you don't mind could you list a few of the major issues you have had with the Item Tracking?Elmar F. Vidisson

Well, just for starters, I had to write a fair amount of code so you can see what lot numbers made up the quantity in a bin. Without it there is no way to see this from the bin contents screen.
We have experienced documents registering out of balance, registering a pick and losing some of the item tracking information on the warehouse shipment (missing reservation entries), etc. The really bad part is that these things will happen 1 in 1000 documents and is very difficult to reproduce.
One thing you'll want to test has to do with the validation of item tracking information at the bin level. At one point (virgin 4.0 I believe) you could pick something out of a bin as long as that item tracking information was valid at the location level. It was not checked at the bin level. So, you could pick a lot or serial number out of a bin that was never put there in the first place so long as it was somewhere in the location. That one was my favorite, I don't understand how that wasn't tested.
I believe Nav 4 SP3 has all the hot fixes we have received from Microsoft. But even with that we STILL have an occasional document registering out of balance.
Good Luck.My mommy says I'm special0
