more advanced UOMs

Is there an add-on for Navision that will allow a more advanced method for UOM conversion?

We're in a unique situation where we can't dictate standard carton quantities, so we may receive cartons of 50 today, and 100 tomorrow. Our customer gives us requirements in eaches, but we can't break the cartons. So, if we have 150 in house (1*50 + 1*100), and they want 125, we have to ship them 150... but since we're storing eaches, we don't know that we can't send them 125 until the warehouse employee actually goes out to the floor and discovers it...

it would be nice/useful if someone had an add-on that allowed you to change the quantity per unit of measure on the receipt, and that would persist that change for that lot only through the rest of the system...

There is no such standard add-on available but we can help you if you can mention your scenerio in more detail.

Do you need to keep track of the UOMs in the warehouse?

    Idea:
Add Order Qty and Order UOM to the Sales Lines and Posted Sales documents. Keep Sales UOM = 1 always.

I had sort of the same problem when dealing with meat and number of steaks per kilo. I added the Order Qty/UOM. Then the customer can order 10 steaks of 100gr. When the butcher is done cutting the steaks he will weight the cut stakes and enter e.g. 1.15 kilo in the quantity.

nuno - we're using WMS, WMS internal picks & put-away, ADCS, ADCS Warehouse Basic, ADCS Warehouse Dynamic, and ADCS Whse. Pick/Pack

hede - Order Qty? I don't see this in the field lists. Did you add this field?

Essentially - I'm looking to have the "Qty. per Unit of Measure" act as a default. A default that could be overridden on a single transaction.

Amazingly enough, our old system, which we hate, does this. It accomplishes it by caching the Qty. per Unit of Measure in every place that it is referenced, rather than referring back to the base table. While I know that this is not well normalized, it does suit business needs more, since that conversion may change...

One way it’s to create a new U.M. each group of items. I don’t think it’s practical in your case, and performance can decrease. Don’t forget that Navision Warehouse is missing grouping, some think like pallets, packages.

Yes, the Order qty. and Order UOM are new fields but the design is easy to implement.

You can use the Sales UOM to default a sales UOM. (or probably I do not understand the problem correctly).
