hi,

i am surprised to call navision as a ERP.
im fedup with its process of permission defining.
i am simply trying to filter all data on the basis of res. center for all branches so that only respective users can see only thjeir data.
i was told to set the security filters on respective table.
i an adding security filter on sales header table for res. center.
but when i am opening the form it is showing
"you do not have permission to open the sales header table" while i have given all permission on this table.

i have also posted it in forum but i got the negative response.

see the forum

Sometimes standard filtering system of Navision does not work properly. I have try many times but do not find any standard solution instead to customise it. Try your scenerio with customisation I hopr you will get the positive results. You can say that process still under development with microsoft.

Just define the responsible center as your global dimention and attach the same dimention with each regord of database. In fact attach it with the usar and when the user will create any master it should automatically assign to the master from user. You also have to make intelligent system for user templates for which another responsibility center user will not be able to utilise.

OK so in other words - no reasonable way to do it. No such thing as "all data" exists in Navision. Convince the customer to reduce their expectations - define what tables and what reports they really need this on and filter the reports accordingly. (Set the resp center to a global dim and the user to the resp center and filter these reports on a global dim.)

Yes I know it will be hard to convince them to. But let me tell you a secret - there is a very big global company - approximately every third or four office in the world spends at least $500 on one of their products. So they are big and important. And - in their Hungarian subsidiary, they were live for 3 years before I added the resp center filtering to accounting schedules. So they have the standard resp center filtering on orders, invoices and after 3 when they got it for accounting schedules. And nothing else. So it is possible to accept it - it's just hard to swallow it.

There is something deeper to it, actually. Each ERP system is also a culture, a mindset. Navision's mindset is a friendly, liberal, easy-going one. It rather wants to make things easy than to make things hard. It's the complete opposite of the strict, forbidding, stiff mindset of SAP. So if the client's company culture is a strict, stiff one, the project is doomed anyway. It's almost impossible to implement Navision for people who have a "nobody should have access to a bit more data than they actually need" mindset. Even if you manage to make it strict, then you will another problem - Navision has it's fair share of errors and if it's kept flexible, then users can workaround them. If it's not - then not. So if the company culture is a very stiff and strict one, it's better to give up. You'll have to do that sooner or later anyway.

    Hi,

Responsibility center works perfectly in Navision, but if u are assigning permissions to users manually (Tools -> Security -> Role -> Permission)you will get irritated and will not get perfect result because you never know which related table, form you may miss. As far as Res. Center is concerned, If a user is assigned as super, but if you do the user setup from the general ledger -> setup -> user -> user setup, the user will get restricted to use only their responcibility centers.

I would also suggest to go through the PDF Manual -> Distribution for Navision. Your all doubts will be clear after reading the manual.

    dear,

navision does not supprt the filteration of following things on the basis of res. center.

    1. Fin.management
    2. posted module (invoice, shipment) sales and purchase
    3. manufacturing madule
    4. HR module

it only filters Sales,Purchase and service manin entries not all
