Upgrade XAL to NAV

Hi!

I have a customer who was fooled to buy Navision XAL 3.5 about a year ago, a system that was doomed already back then. Now they want an upgrade to Dynamics NAV. :?
Is there anyone who has experience of such an upgrade or know where to find tools and documentation about it?
In PartnerSource there are zip files for both XAL2AX (to Dynamix AX) and XAL2NAV, but in the zip file for NAV there is only one document that contains info about "Extended User Guide" and it doesn't hold any info about the upgrade really. #-o

I would be very surprised if there were tools to upgrade from XAL to NAV. As you probably know Axapta started out life as XAL v 3.0 back in the day and became a product in its own right. The same team worked on XAL and Axapta and you can see a lot of similarities in the way they work.

NAV on the other hand was purely a competing product for XAL until Navision bought Damgaard (and just before Microsoft bought them both.)

If it were me, I would treat the NAV as a clean install and perform data-conversion and implementation as you would with any other new project. The difference would be that you should find it a lot easier to identify modifications made to XAL and extract the data - since there are tools to do this.

Having worked on XAL for 7 years and NAV for 5, I am not sure how much of an upgrade this would really be. But good luck anyway!

Well, the problem of making an educated guess is that you can sometimes get egg on your face.
